The reconstructions of the Hlaing Tharyar SoPos State Primary School and the Thanlyin Pyin Thaung Village State Midle School were successfully completed on 16 April 2009 in Yangon, Myanmar, with financial and technological support from Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF).

With the attendance of over 30,000 faithful followers, the Commemoration and Ash-Burial Ceremony of the Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen were stately convened at the Eco-Friendly Memorial Garden of Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in the afternoon of 15 February 2009, following the end to the 12-Day Solemn Buddhist rituals immediately pursuant to the Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen’s passing on 3 February 2009.

Starting from 14 March, Dharma Drum Mountain Sangha community will be visiting faithful followers and volunteers island-wide with the aim of encouraging all to keep practicing the teachings of Venerable Master Sheng Yen.
Dharma Drum Mountain Sangha Community held the Vesak Festival at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township. Commenced on 1 May 2009, the three-day event commemorated the birth of Sakyamuni Buddha.
Typhoon Morakot that stormed Taiwan from 7 to 9 August 2009 and has inflicted major flooding to southern and eastern Taiwan, leaving tens of thousands of people homeless and brought them heartbreaking losses, especially for villagers inhabiting in Pingtung County, Tainan County, Kaohsiung County and Taitung County.
In the early hours of Wednesday, 12 August 2009, more than sixty Venerables from the DDM Sangha Community and hundreds of volunteers set out to remote villages of Linbian Township, Pintung County in southern Taiwan to provide assistance to the victims of Typhoon Morakot that hit Taiwan from 7 to 9 August. The southern and eastern regions of Taiwan were especially affected by the typhoon.

The month of May, being the month of Buddha’s birth and enlightenment, is a time when one can reflect on kindness and gratitude. The Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) initiated the 2009 Year-End Philanthropic Party beginning from 12 December to 7 February, 2010, across Taiwan, aiming to offer assistance to about 2,500 financially disadvantaged households, as well as to the elderly living alone.
