DDMSWCF distributes gifts of financial assistance to disadvantaged students

The month of May, being the month of Buddha’s birth and enlightenment, is a time when one can reflect on kindness and gratitude. With this in mind, the Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) initiated an island-wide project to distribute gifts of financial assistance to disadvantaged students.

This included the districts of Taichung, Hualien, Nantou, Miaoli, Loudong, Pindong and Xinzhu. For example, on 9 May and in conjunction with the Mother's Day celebrations, Venerables, volunteers and students from DDM, distributed financial assistance in Luodong district.

In his Dharma talk, Venerable Guo Xuan reminded us that one’s mind can be peaceful as long as the Buddha and the Dharma are situated in one’s heart. When the mind is at peace, peace will be upon us. After Venerable Guo Xuan’s talk, the Venerables and all participants prayed together with gratitude for peace.

On the same morning, the Miaoli Office of DDMSWCF held a similar function to distribute gifts of financial assistance to disadvantaged students in that district.

They began the function by involving all participants in the Eight Form Moving Meditation exercise program in the hope that every participant will realize the significance and importance of concentration and relaxation of the mind and body at all times.

It is the hope of the DDMSWCF that all recipients of the financial assistance will recognize this value of generosity and compassion for others and will, in the future, dedicate themselves to contribute to the well-being of society in return.

Apart from taking care of the financial needs of the disadvantaged students, DDMSWCF believes that nurturing their spiritual needs was equally important. This is in line with the goal of “building a pure land on earth.”
