From the 7th to 8th of September 2008, a delegation of 47 Buddhist scholars and students from Rissho University in Japan visited the Dharma Drum Buddhist College (DDBC) and the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education, on which occasion Venerable Master Sheng Yen, founder of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM), welcomed and met the group.

Ten honored venerables and Buddhist professionals from The Buddhist Association of China (BAC) in mainland China paid their first visit to the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County on the morning of 14 July 2008.

On the morning of 27 December 2008, the Education Bureau of Taipei County Government awarded Dharma Drum Mountain Foundation of Great Love, Culture and Education for its long-term contribution towards social education.

On the afternoon of 21 October 2008, the Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen lectured on the Six Ethics of the Mind, the moral values that have been actively promoted by the Master and Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) in society for peace and harmony, at the National Defense University by invitation of the University.

The United Nations (UN) has warned that 70% of the disaster victims in Burma will face food shortage and have pledged the assistance of the international community. The UN has also pleaded with the Burmese government to relax its rules and let international relief organisations and relief supplies enter the disaster areas.

Venerable Master Sheng Yen endeavors to close the gap between Buddhism and society, in the hope of introducing more people to realize a Pure Land on Earth.

The Third International Conference on the Linguistics of Chinese-language Buddhist Sutras jointly hosted by Dharma Drum Buddhist College and National Chengchi University ended successfully on 3 November 2008. The Conference was held at the International Conference Hall of DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taiwan.
The Honored Chairman of United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) Mr Robert Tsao, donated 20 million yuens to Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) on 21 July 2008 to support DDM's reconstruction projects in the Sichuan province.

On the morning of 11 May 2008, the Anhe Branch Monastery of Dharma Drum Mountain in Taipei hosted the Vesak Ceremony at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall. The Abbot President, Venerable Guo Dong, the Sangha community and the new-elected Vice President, Vincent Siew, were all present at the assembly to pray for cyclone-hit victims in Burma and to celebrate the Vesak Festival.
Recent deadly disasters of cyclone Nargis in Burma and the Sichuan earthquake in China have left an unimaginable number of causalities and traumatized survivors.

On 16 May 2008, Venerable Guo Dong, Abbot President of DDM presided at a Dharma Assembly held at the Chan Meditation Center in New York, USA, to wish for peace to the victims.
On the morning of 6 October, 2008, nine visitors, including professors from the Global College of Long Island University in the United States, arrived at Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) World Centre for Buddhist Education for a four-day program of religious and spiritual learning.
