In the morning of November 25, 2008, the Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen and Dr. Jane Goodall, who delivered an educational and inspirational speech at the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education two years ago, sat down together for an inspirational dialogue on nurturing compassion. The dialogue took place at the Multi-Purpose Conference Hall of the Taipei County Government.

On the morning of 6 January 2008, Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) hosted the 13th Buddhist Wedding at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County.

On the eve of the new lunar year, 6 February 2008, approximately one thousand Buddhists packed the Dharma Drum Mountain World Centre for Buddhist Education in Jinshan, Taipei, to celebrate the arrival of the Lunar New Year.

Red Chinese lanterns lined both sides of Taye Road before the entrance of Nung Chan Monastery. The lantern display resembled two red dragons welcoming the arrival of Chinese New Year 2008, which brought a festive atmosphere against a backdrop of the gray monastery walls.

On the morning of 10 May 2008, Nung Chan Monastery of Dharma Drum Mountain hosted a 'gratitude' themed celebration as part of the annual Vesak Festival. Despite the inclement weather on the day, devotees and their family and friends arrived in strong numbers for the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. This was done as a blessing for all parents and in recognition of practitioners' vows to purify their minds.

Following months of a fundraising campaign, The Quanta Culture and Education Foundation donated NT $9 million to Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) on 6 June 2008 to uphold DDM's humanitarian relief work in China's quake-ruined areas.

The Chung Hwa Institute of Buddhist Culture (CHIBC) and Nung Chan Monastery of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) were once again awarded by Taipei City Government for their long-term contributions to local communities.

Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen promotes the "Four aggregates of inner peace" ideology to help victims cope with disaster trauma and rebuild their lives.

On the afternoon of 6 September 2008, the 2nd International Caring for Life Awards were hosted by the Dharma Drum Humanities and Social Improvement Foundation (DDHSIF) at the Grand Hotel in Taipei.
