From the 7th to 8th of September 2008, a delegation of 47 Buddhist scholars and students from Rissho University in Japan visited the Dharma Drum Buddhist College (DDBC) and the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education, on which occasion Venerable Master Sheng Yen, founder of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM), welcomed and met the group.

On the morning of 20 April 2008, one thousand five hundred people received the Three Jewels – the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha – from Venerable Master Sheng Yen at Nung Chan Monastery in order to become Buddhist disciples.
DDM's Relief Team in Burma returned to Taiwan on 19 May 2008 and began reporting on the situation in Burma. Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) met that evening to collate and study all relevant information and examined future direction in conducting relief operations there.
By an unexpected encounter, an outstanding scientist devoted to the exploration of the relationship between mind and science is eager to conduct a spiritual dialogue with a distinguished religious master. Through Oriental and Western cultural exchange, connections between Buddhism and science could be strengthened, advancing the development of human society.
On the morning of 31 May 2008, Dharma Drum Mountain hosted a meaningful spiritual dialogue between Venerable Master Sheng Yen and American astronaut Dr Edgar Mitchell at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Taipei. The dialogue unfolded around the themes of "Power of the Universe," "The Mystery of Consciousness" and "Enlightenment: Dawn of the Future World."

The Chinese Arts & Literature Association has conferred the Distinguished Culture Contribution Award to Venerable Master Sheng Yen to acknowledge his continuing dedication and impact on Chinese arts and literature.

A cooperative agreement was signed on 10 June 2008 between Dharma Drum Buddhist College (DDBC) and Inventec, one of Taiwan's leading electronic and computer manufacturing companies at DDBC International Conference Room.

Dharma Drum Buddhist College (DDBC) hosted a two-day international conference to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of the Chinese Buddhist Text Association (CBETA) and the great achievements in Buddhist scripture digitization over the years. The conference was held on 16-17 February 2008, at Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County.
Can repentance really earn one's salvation? To address this question, Dharma Drum Buddhist College (DDBC) and the Academic Sinica hosted a joint Symposium of Falling, Repentance and Salvation from 4th to 6th December, 2008.

Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) has dispatched its fourth relief team to quake-affected regions in Sichuan province since the recent earthquake. Survivors of the earthquake welcomed DDM's relief team comprising of medical personnel along with young and energetic members of Dharma Drum Youth Buddhist Society (DDYBS), learning and contributing immensely in the process.
