UMC Honored Chairman supports DDM relief efforts in Sichuan

The Honored Chairman of United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) Mr Robert Tsao, donated 20 million yuens to Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) on 21 July 2008 to support DDM's reconstruction projects in the Sichuan province.

Acting on Mr Tsao's instruction, DDM will transfer the fund to China's Association for Relations across the Taiwan Strait for the reconstruction of forty primary schools in Sichuan that were badly damaged by the earthquake in May of this year. Mr Tsao also donated 10 million yuens to DDM to uphold its activities in providing spiritual guidance to the traumatized people of the province. These funds were raised by auctioning one of his cherished Chinese porcelains in Hong Kong.

Mr Tsao has been associated with DDM Founder, the Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen for a long time, and these donations are an embodiment of the Master's view on wealth when he states "the more you give or contribute to the country, its communities and others in need, the more wealth you would possess".
