On March 16, under the order of the state government, the 8-million population San Francisco Bay Area became the first region of compulsory home sequester in North American during the COVID-19 pandemic. To the residents, this may have been the most significant change to their daily lives since World War II, whereas this is a required course of Buddhist practices for the followers of the DDM San Francisco Bay Area Center.

On the afternoon of 22nd February 2009, members of the Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association in Malaysia (DDM Malaysia) welcomed the arrival of Venerable Chang Hui from the DDM Sangha community in Taiwan. Mr. Lin Zhonghong, Chief Convener of DDM Malaysia, hosted a welcoming party in the evening during which Venerable Chang Hui gave a Dharma talk to 200 devotees.

From 5th to 14th February 2009, faithful followers gathered at the Chan Hall of Dharma Drum Mountain in Los Angeles (DDM Los Angeles) to prostrate to the Sakyamuni Buddha, to participate the Buddha-name Recitation Dharma Rituals and to give the last warmest tribute to Venerable Master Sheng Yen.
On night of 24 February 2009, about 200 faithful followers gathered at the Buddha Hall of Dharma Drum Mountain in Vancouver (DDM Vancouver) to prostrate to the Sakyamuni Buddha and to participate the Buddha-name Recitation Dharma Rituals in memory of Venerable Master Sheng Yen.
It was a simple and earnest Service of Gratitude to Venerable Master Sheng Yen on Sunday 15 February 2009 in the Sydney branch of Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association Australia.

Commenced on 3 February 2009, Dharma Drum Mountain in Malaysia (DDM Malaysia) initiated the solemn Dharma rituals of Vow Making and Buddha-name Recitation in memory of Venerable Master Sheng Yen in line with Dharma rituals hosted in Taiwan's DDM.
On Sunday, January 18, 2009, Venerable Guo Xing continued the dharma lecture series on Chan with a talk on "How Not to Get Sick". Venerable explained that when we meditate, we may experience peace and harmony in body and mind.
On Sunday, January 4, 2009, Dr. Peter Lin, a psychologist and long-time Buddhist practitioner, gave a talk at Chan Meditation Center entitled "The Art of Helping: A Problem Management and Opportunity Approach to Helping".
Three very simple instructions given to us by Venerable Guo Jun became the focus of the forthcoming retreat days. But what do they mean, and how do we apply this? Do we just flop onto the sitting cushion and grin for seven days?
Venerable Guo Xing, Abbot of Dharma Drum Retreat Center and Chan Meditation Center, gave a talk entitled "To Perceive That All Five Skandhas Are Empty", the first of the dharma lecture series on Chan at CMC on Sunday, December 21, 2008.

In 2006, Dharma Drum Mountain in Vancouver (DDM Vancouver) held a fundraising event for the seriously ill children of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and made a promise to the children that DDM Vancouver would return in the future. Before the Christmas holiday of 2008, DDM Vancouver fulfilled its promise of bringing the children peace and happiness.
