As political and economic ties between Africa and Asia grow, it is important that the religious leaders of the two continents collaborate closely; to share experiences of humanitarian works, and to ponder over interfaith opportunities, challenges, cooperation and interactions. This is necessary to cultivate global compassion which would greatly "uplift the character of humanity" in accordance to Dharma Drum Mountain's philosophy of peace and harmony.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a traditional day for family reunions in the Chinese society. To celebrate this special day, Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) hosted a gala on 24 September, 2007 at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan, Taipei.

The city of Jakarta has recently experienced its worst flood in five years. The damaging flood was caused by days of heavy rainfall, inundating rivers around the Jakarta area.
Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation organized its annual Year-End Philanthropic Party on 25 November 2007 at the Jinmei Elementary School in Jinshan Township, Taipei County. The important message for this party was to remind participants to exercise compassion towards the needs of disadvantaged groups.
In the evening of 24 June 2007, a tour bus carrying 35 passengers veered off the road and rolled down the side of a 50-meter deep ravine on Yangmin Mountain (Yangminshan), north of Taipei, killing at least eight people and injuring twenty five others.
Three people were killed and three others injured in northern Keelung County on the morning of 8 June, 2007 due to mudslides and landslides caused by heavy rains over the past week.
