Nearly ten thousand devotees attended the ritual of Sending off the Sages toward the end of Dharma Drum Mountain Great Compassion Water and Land Dharma Service, in the afternoon of December 5, 2015. For the ritual, all the monastics and lay Buddhists sent off the four kinds of sages and six groups of ordinary beings in the ten spiritual realms with utmost gratitude and joyful mind by sincerely chanting the Buddha’s name, marking the completion of the Service.

In the Dharma ceremony, abbot president, Ven. Guo Dong (果東)emphasized that having a thankful heart is in itself Protecting the Spiritual Environment. The participants all vowed to learn the Dharma, support Buddhism, and spread the Buddha’s teaching, making an effort to build a pure land on Earth.

The graduation ceremony for the second cohort of the Merit Field Program was held at DDMBA Chan Meditation Center in Fremont, San Francisco on November 8, 2014. This ceremony was attended by Ven. Guo Dong, the Abbot President of DDM, Ven. Guo Xing, the Abbot of Chan Meditation Center as well as about 100 devotees.
A blessing ceremony to signify the cleansing of mind and monastery as well as the Medicine Buddha Ritual was held at the new center of DDM Ontario Buddhist Association (DDMOBA) on October 25, 2014. The opening ceremony of this new center was hosted by Ven. Guo Xing, the Abbot of Chan Meditation Center (CMC), on October 26, 2015; at 10 a.m., Ven. Guo Dong, the Abbot President of DDM, and Huang Chu-chi, the vice president of Dharma Drum Mountain Fellowship, unveiled the new Buddha statue. This opening ceremony and the subsequent carnival themed “Protecting the Spiritual Environment” were attended by Ambassador Rong-chuan Wu, who is also the Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto as well as approximately 100 devotees.

The DDM Awakening Camp is for those who wish to experience the monastic life for a short period of time. 150 people participated in the One-Day Chan Retreat organized by the DDM Anhe Branch on October 26, 2014 to promote physical and mental wellbeing. According to Ven. Guo Shiuh, director of the DDM Anhe Branch Monastery, we may not be able to reap any short-term benefits from Chan meditation; however, in the long run and through consistent practice, we could lessen the arising of ill-will and negative thoughts.
The 6th International Conference on Contemporary Buddhism and the Thought of Master Sheng Yen will be held at the GIS National Taiwan University Convention Center from Friday to Sunday, July 1 to 3, 2016. The title of the conference is "Chinese Buddhism and Master Sheng Yen in the Contexts of Modernity and the Buddhist Historical Imagination". Sheng Yen Education Foundation, sponsor of the event, indicates that the biannual international conference aims to stimulate religious dialogues in the effort to build a pure land on earth, and the number of papers presented as well as the amount of audience for each conference have gradually increased since its inception in 2006.
