Venerable Guo Xing, Abbot of Dharma Drum Retreat Center and Chan Meditation Center, gave a talk entitled "To Perceive That All Five Skandhas Are Empty", the first of the dharma lecture series on Chan at CMC on Sunday, December 21, 2008.

On September 20, about twenty people from CMC went to the beach at Jacob Riis Park in Jamaica Bay, Queens to practice walking meditation. Chang Wen Fashi guided a meditation walk along the water and direct contemplation practice.
During the August and September months, DDM Sydney ran for the first time, a unique meditation course titled 'Buddhist Meditation Course 101' led by Venerable Guo Jun. This course was a series of four 3-hour lessons designed for beginners interested in learning meditation.

The Mid-Autumn Mooncake Festival held at the Chan Meditation Center in New York on September 13 was described as an event where participants can "appreciate the moon with a Chan mind". Approximately 120 people, including resident monks and nuns of DDRC and CMC, and several monastics , including the Abbess of Grace Gratitude Temple, Venerable Jing Yi, and monastics from Pu Jou Temple attended this event.

On the night of 13 September 2008, the Chan Meditation Center of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) in New York celebrated the Chinese tradition of the Full Moon Festival. There were about 120 people present at the event, including Venerable Jinyi, Venerable Chuanhui, Venerable Mingkuan from the Fo En Monastery and Venerable Zhilung from the Pu Zhao Monastery.

On September 6, 2008, over 60 people attended a talk given by Nancy Bonardi about metta or lovingkindness practice during Sunday's Open House at the Chan Meditation Center.
Dharma Drum Mountain Malaysia (DDM Malaysia) hosted a charity sale on 27 July 2008 to express their utmost gratitude to the peoples' long-term support and to raise funds for the construction of a new office. Preparation for the event took approximately one month, where the theme of "Living Environment" aimed to encourage people to cherish our resources and environment.
Dharma Drum Mountain at Vancouver, Canada, hosted the 2008 Youth Growth Camp between 22 and 24 August. This event was led by Venerable Guo Shu, Venerable Chang Yi and Venerable Chang Xing and provided an excellent opportunity for young people to learn more about Chinese Chan (Zen), in particular the real meaning of Chan and methods of Chan practice.

As the space of the Dharma hall of DDM Hong Kong branch is limited, we can only accommodate about 80 participants. For those who were not able to join this time, we look forward to the coming One Day chanting to be held in October at Po-Kwok Middle school.
On 6 June 2008, fifteen members of the Western Chan Fellowship from Great Britain visited Dharma Drum Mountain World Center in Jinshan Township, Taipei County. The three-day Dharma exchange was the first time members of the Fellowship have visited Dharma Drum Mountain. The team was led by Dr John Crook, who received Dharma transmission from Venerable Master Sheng Yen in 1993 and is one of the Master's five Western Dharma descendants.

May 1 (Thursday) session on Earth Treasury Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha):

At 2: 00 pm, groups of fellow practitioners and their families came to join the session at the meditation hall of Hong Kong DDM centre. They were led by Guo Xu Fashi and Guo Jing Fashi, who were invited to come to Hong Kong for the occasion.
