As the COVID-19 pandemic rapidly spreads all over the world, people are getting more and more disturbed with the ever-growing confirmed cases. To pray for those suffering from and affected by the pandemic to be at ease, DDM Abbot President Venerable Guo Huei has been hosting live streaming dharma assemblies called “A mind at peace; a life at peace!” at Wish-Fulfilling Guanyin Hall in DDM World Center for Buddhist Education every Sunday morning since March 1st. The merit and virtue attained by the dharma services will be transferred to all sentient beings, to provide the society with the spiritual blessings of Buddha Dharma.
As the pandemic of COVID-19 prevails, people are on the edge of fear. In addition to the task of caring for those who are uneasy in society, DDM sangha group seized the chance to practice diligently. Before the monastic retreat in summer, DDM Sangha Education Department and Chan Hall have jointly arranged a 40-day retreat, divided into 5-sessions, from April 21 to May 31 in the Lotus Academy.
Seek calm and stability in the midst of complexity and chaos. With a calm and stable body and mind, we will have peace and safety. Positivity, in its true sense, means that even in the midst of our happiness, we still have others in mind and act for the benefit of others.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, group practice activities and classes at Dharma Drum Mountain’s monasteries and practice centers at home and aboard have either been cancelled or postponed since January 29, as part of the pandemic prevention efforts to ensure public health. DDM was the first Buddhist organization in the world to introduce on-line real-time group practice as a temporary measure.
As the outbreak of coronavirus-2019 (2019-nCoV) is still developing, all activities in Dharma Drum Mountain Taiwan will continue to suspend until April 5th.
In response to the 2019 new coronavirus outbreak, Dharma Drum Mountain announced on January 29, 2020 that all its events, including the Awakening Camp, Chan retreats, ceremonies to transmit Bodhisattva Precepts for Lay Practitioners, the Young People’s Camp: Cultivating Excellence, and the Chan Camp for School Teachers, as well as Dharma classes and group practice activities, will be suspended until April 5th for the sake of public health. The DDM Passing on the Lamp Dharma Service, scheduled to take place on February 1, was broadcast in real time online and wrapped up with a prayer for the world.

January 7th marked the debut of “An Encounter with DDM’s Abbot President” on DDMTV. This is a television series where participants could have a face-to-face dialogue with Venerable Guo Huei. The audience, from within the DDM organization or external parties, would ask questions of their immediate concerns. In response, Abbot President Venerable Guo Huei provided his insights from Buddha’s teachings.
How Chinese Buddhism was transmitted across regions, time, and cultures especially along with people’s migration?

Sheng Yen Education Foundation has held "The 5th Modern Chinese Buddhism Forum: Beyond Time and Space - Transmission of Chinese Buddhism" in the city branch of Zhaiming Monastery (齋明別苑) from December 21st through 22nd, 2019. Scholars from the European and Asian countries and the USA presented six papers and participated in two round-table discussions.

In his opening remarks, DDM Abbot President Venerable Guo Huei (果暉法師) appreciated all scholars’ contributions to opening up the field of Buddhist studies and nurturing a new generation of Buddhist scholars, which made it possible to carry on DDM’s vision on education.
The year 2019 marks the 10th anniversary for Master Sheng Yen’s passing, the 30th anniversary for Dharma Drum Mountain, the 40th anniversary for Chan Meditation Center, and the 70th anniversary for Humanity Magazine. To remember Master Sheng Yen, DDM organized a series of events surrounding the theme of “Thus I Do.”
