The Vimalakirti Sutra is the one of the most profound and insightful sutras
that expounds how lay practitioners can cultivate the Bodhisattva Path. In
this lecture, Guo Gu will talk about the core teaching and its application in
our daily life.

Guest speaker: Guo Gu (Dr. Jimmy Yu)
Founder of Tallahassee Chan Center
Associate Professor at Florida State University
An opportunity for serious practitioners to sustain practice and receive guidance from meditation teachers. This retreat is open to people who have taken Beginners’ Meditation Class or already have an established meditation practice.

Time: Mar 31 (Sat) 9:00 am ~ 5:00 pm
Fee: Free (Donation is welcome) Led by Harry Miller

Please call CMC at 718-592-6593 or registration Online.
Although the methods of meditation are simple and straightforward, it is best to practice them under the guidance of a teacher. Without a teacher, a meditator will not be able to correct beginner’s mistakes, which if uncorrected, could lead to problems or lack of useful results.

In our weekend meditation class, you will learn the fundamentals of sitting meditation, including proper bodily posture (sitting on a cushion or a chair), relaxation, and basic methods of concentration. In addition, you’ll learn about the proper environment, equipment, and timing, as well as self-massage and important concepts related to the process of meditation. Explanations about various experiences and obstacles in meditation will also be given.

The format of the class allows you to immerse yourself in the training, over two nights and two days. Your grasp of the methods will improve with each sitting, reinforced by group practice with like-minded students. You will return home motivated and equipped to cultivate your personal daily practice.

Who am I? Thoroughly confronting this question can take us directly to the centre of our being. Over the course of this five-day retreat you will investigate the question "Who am I?" within a standard retreat framework, using silent meditation in conjunction with a unique method of verbal inquiry. This format allows you to use words to go beyond words and thereby enter the main gate of Chan.

The intensive nature of this process of inquiry drives each practitioner into a self-presentation that is difficult to experience in other ways. To guide and support you, personal interviews with the teachers are offered regularly throughout the retreat. With whole-hearted engagement this retreat may lead to the acceptance of self, the experience of "self at ease," and may even provide an opportunity for direct insight into the ground of being.

Open equally to beginners and established meditators.
