Amituofo! Happy Chinese New Year! I wish all of you an auspicious new year.

During Chinese New Year,people will greet each other with auspicious words when saying congratulations.

Is this kind of blessing useful? It is very useful, because blessings said in sincerity are in essence a form of wish.

I bless you, and you bless me. A single person’s words of blessing,combined with multiple others’ words of blessing,will become a collective power of our individual aspirations.

This is why every year Dharma Drum Mountain proposes a different theme of blessing, inviting people in society to jointly make a vow to fulfill a wish.

The Social Welfare and Charity Foundation of Dharma Drum Mountain (法鼓山慈善基金會), DDM SWCF, supported by the love from society, donated a Community Shuttle Bus to provide free transportation for the blessed aboriginal tribes of Nan-ao Village. The ceremony to donate this bus was held in front of the Ataya Culture Center (泰雅文化館) at 9:00 a.m. on July 2nd. Tribal seniors, the head of each village and the principals of several schools, accompanied by around 100 villagers, participated in the ceremony. Together, they dedicated passionate dances and warm blessings, in celebration of this event.
In principle, Buddhism has no dogmas. What are closest to being dogmatic are the precepts. But precepts for Buddhists are not a covenant with God, so they are not mysterious as in some religions. Precepts in Buddhism come from principles of ethics and are hence purely rational.
The eighth Dharma Drum Mountain Global Sangha Assembly took place at Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education on June 26, with over 300 monastics at home and from aboard in attendance. The assembly passed the resolution to appoint Ven. Guo Huei (果暉法師) as DDM’s sixth abbot-president.

Some 6,000 participants experienced relaxing, calming sensation, and purified their minds through the activities of bathing the Buddha, hitting the Lotus bell, then praying for their family as well as the world.

That there are a vast number of Buddhist scriptures is well known. So no one can say definitively which sūtra or sūtras are representative of Buddhism. Largely for this reason many schools of Buddhism emerged in China, each based on the perspective of particular sūtras or treatises.

Nonetheless, there is a fundamental doctrine common to all Buddhism—what the Buddha discovered about life and the universe—the truth of conditioned arising, also known as dependent origination.
Hsinhsing Monastery, one of DDM’s branching monasteries, derived its name from the Dharma, signifying “faith, aspiration, and deportment”. Located at the serene Beinan Village in TaiTung, the tranquility of this monastery brings a sense of calmness that peels away the weariness of a hectic lifestyle to those who visit.
The mind of Chan is no-mind. As the old saying goes: “A carefully tended bush does not blossom, while a carelessly planted willow branch grows up to give shade” “ No-mind” means not harboring expectations; this can even bring unexpected good results.
