The Abbot President arrives at CMC to care and to give a Dharma talk

On the 14th of July, the Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong arrives at the Dharma Drum Mountain Chan Meditation Center in New York to unveil his caring activities and to speak to his New York's followers.

Activities were started with watching the film, "In Remembrance of Master Sheng Yen", allowing followers to rehearse the teachings of the Master.

The proverb by the Master himself:
Busy with nothing, growing old;
Within emptiness, weeping and crying;
Intrinsically, there is no "I",
Life and death, thus cast aside.

This proverb embodies the Master's compassionate spirit and Dharma teaching.

The Abbot of CMC Venerable Guo Xing pointed out that the Master had taught us that Dharma Drum Mountain is not under the leadership of any individual, rather it is depend upon the "idea" for leadership. Although the Master's physical body had left, his "Dharma body" lasts forever and the Dharma seed that the Master had planted in the past needs us to continue cultivating and to grow.

The Prior of CMC Venerable Chang Hwa said that CMC has been continuing to expand its current services. Once a lager place is found for CMC to move in, more activities for children and the youth will be designed to provide greater chance of learning the Dharma for young people.

The Abbot President concluded that the core spirit of DDM is to "uplift the character of humanity and build a pure land on earth". Venerable Guo Dong encouraged every follower to learn the spirit of Guanyin (Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva) in the works of purifying one’s mind and the society.
