DDM Opens Permanent Base in Portland
Six years ago, Dharma Drum Mountain opened in Portland, Oregon. DDM Portland has greatly expanded over this time, due in no small part to the enthusiastic support of Li Guocun, Deng Yinying, Li Xianhsin, Lin Powen and Chen Ruijuan. Furthermore, as of February this year, DDM Portland even has a permanent location, thanks to the house that Li Guocun has most generously donated.
Li Guocun, as the convener of the Portland branch, has been very active in spreading the Dharma through study groups and meditation classes. Li Guocun has expressed a personal desire to introduce younger generations to the wisdom of Master Sheng Yen.
As result of his dedication, DDM Portland has attracted more and more young people to activities.
DDM Portland also appreciates the support and encouragement from Master Sheng Yen and Venerable Guo Dong, the Abbot President of DDM. DDM Portland's volunteers report being much inspired by their care and support.
The recent Purification Ceremony last month was a great success. Venerable Guo Qian flew from New York and Venerable Guo Qian flew from Vancouver to assist in the ceremony and to teach volunteers how to run study groups and meditation classes. All participants were greatly moved by the Purification Ceremony. DDM Portland is dedicated to spreading the Dharma, in line with DDM's purpose of 'uplifting the character of humanity, building a pure land on Earth'.
