Venerable Chang Yan Led the 'Transmission of the Dharma Lamp' at the Practice Center in LA, USA.

On the afternoon of 21 February, 2010, the event titled 'Transmission of the Dharma Lamp', led by Venerable Chang Yan, was hosted at the practice center in Los Angles, United States of America.

A total of seventy people attended to make good vows in remembrance of the late Venerable Master Sheng Yen who had relinquished his Dharma body a year prior.

Venerable Chang Yan encouraged every participant to follow the teachings of the Master with gratitude and to keep making good vows, as it is deemed the best approach to commemorate Venerable Master Sheng Yen by DDM’s monastics.

Before transmitting the lamp – an act that symbolizes the continuation of the Dharma and the will of carrying on the Master’s compassionate vows - from one holder to another, Venerable Chang Yan began by leading everyone in prostrating to the Buddha and Venerable Master Sheng Yen.

Venerable Chang Yan reminded everyone of Dharma Drum Mountain’s vision that is one that strives to nurture the seed of virtue in everyone’s heart and to benefit the sentient beings. Owing to this vision, the Venerable, therefore, stated that one should continuing putting in effort and practice DDM’s idea of ‘uplifting the character of humanity and building a pure land on earth’.
