30th Anniversary of CHIBS and 3rd Anniversary of DDBC
On the afternoon of 13 June 2009, a talent show and the joint exhibitions held at Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township marked the thirtieth anniversary of Chung Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies (CHIBS) and the third anniversary of Dharma Drum Buddhist College (DDBC).
Honorable guests, including President Abbot, Venerable Guo Dong, President of DDBC, Venerable Hui Min, President of CHIBS, Venerable Guo Jing, former President of CHIBS, Pro. Li Zhifu, and President of Huafan University, Venerable Xiu Ci, attended to deliver their warmest blessings and to share their joyful stories of CHIBS and DDBC.
After three wonderful performances, the highlight of the concert was the performance of Buddhist songs by a young guitarist, singer and composer, Miss Lin Tingchu, who skillfully brought Buddhist mantras into her performance.
A beautiful song, "Home", composed and sung by Mr. Kang Jiliang, a student of DDBC, deeply touched the hearts of everyone. This was followed by an impressive show from the Frame Drum Team of the Dharma Practice Society of DDM.
Following the performances, Venerable Guo Dong said in his speech that DDM has been receiving high recognition from the wider society. He encouraged everyone to take this opportunity to continue their work in the development of Chinese Buddhism in Taiwan, and DDM.
This can be achieved through supporting CHIBS and DDBC in cultivating Buddhist talent in Taiwan, propagating Dharma, and to "build a pure land on earth", an idea proposed by Venerable Master Sheng Yen.
Venerable Guo Jing said that so far 215 people graduated from CHIBS and many have remained in CHIBS or in DDBC for further studies. Academia is flourishing at CHIBS and she extended her warm welcome to everyone to visit the Center to witness the accomplishments and development of Buddhist education in Taiwan.
The joint exhibitions last until 31 August 2009.
