DDM and Entrepreneurs Light Up the Six Ethics Movement for Social Harmony

In the face of difficult relationships in modern society and the degradation of ethics in recent times, Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) has been actively promoting the Six Ethics Movement as the guiding principles for uplifting human character and promoting social harmony and peace since 2006.

The Six Ethics include Family Ethics, Living Ethics, Campus Ethics, Enterprise Ethics, Environmental Ethics and Ethnic Ethics. These Six Ethics are considered more appropriate in today's society than the traditional Five Ethics.

DDM's Six Ethics Movement initially proposed by Venerable Master Sheng Yen has rapidly won people's recognition and appreciation. In order to further propagate the movement for social harmony, the Dharma Drum Humanistic and Social Foundation hosted an event on 22 December 2007 at the Hsinyi Square of Taipei City in the vicinity of Taipei 101, the highest skyscraper in the world and the most famous landmark in Taiwan.

In endorsement of Venerable Master Sheng Yen's compassion, President of National Taiwan University Dr Si-Chen Lee, the President of Hsinyin Housing Corp. Jun-Ji Chou, the President of Daikin Corp. I-Chung Su, the Executive Director of Fubon Cultural and Educational Foundation Ai-Lin Chen were present to deliver their blessings, as well as to take a vow signifying their willingness to take responsibility in promoting the Six Ethics.

Together with the Abbot President of DDM, Venerable Guo Dong, representatives lit up the wall of light bulbs, demonstrating their determination to practice the Six Ethics and to call on the public to also act in accordance with the Six Ethics.

Venerable Guo Dong said that DDM hopes the event inspires each participant to abide by the Six Ethics as well as to promote it to every corner of the Taiwanese society. The Abbot President further stressed that the spirit of Six Ethics is "tolerance", teaching one how to respect one another and how to care for others based on the spirit of harmony.

The Secretary General of DDM Humanistic and Social Foundation, Shen-I Lee, said that although Spiritual Environment, The Fivefold Spiritual Renaissance Campaign and The Six Ethics Movement have different names, the spirit they represent remains no different. They all aim to purify our mind with compassion, wisdom and the Dharma.

Venerable Master Sheng Yen arrived later, to express his warmest blessing to all participants and compassionately called for participants to uphold the Six Ethics Movement for social harmony.
