DDMSWCF initiates the 2010 Year-End Philanthropy Party at Nung Chan Monastery

On the afternoon of 11 December, 2010, nearly 1,000 people gathered at Nung Chan Monastery in Taipei for the joyful 2010 Year-End Philanthropy Party of Dharma Drum Mountain.

Participants were mostly disadvantaged people who have received long-term care and assistance from the Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF).

Aside from Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong, Mr. Qing-Kao Huang, Vice Director of the Social Affairs Bureau of Taipei City Hall, and many other social celebrities were also present at the event to offer their blessings.

Venerable Guo Dong said that the DDMSWCF has hosted the Year-end Philanthropy Party for many years, in cooperation with government departments and with the help of volunteers, to care for disadvantaged people. Contributors gain merit and wisdom from the act of giving, and at the same time recipients, with the feeling of gratitude in their hearts, are willing to offer their help to others when possible, thus cultivating friendliness and goodwill in both parties.

Vice Director Huang, on behalf of Taipei City Hall, first thanked DDM’s long term contribution to those in need. He then encouraged everyone to always maintain a positive mind in the face of adversity in order to transform one’s fate.

The party’s joyful programs led to much laughter among participants. In addition, the DDMSWCF distributed ‘Caring Packages’ containing living necessities such as cooking oil, rice and salt to disadvantaged families.

According to the DDMSWCF, the Nung Chan Monastery spearheaded the 2010 Year-end Philanthropy Party and it will be successively held at branch monasteries across Taiwan until the end of January 2011. By that time more than 2,800 disadvantaged families and elderly people who live alone will be cared for.
