DDMSWCF awards subsidies to poor students and offers spiritual care in Aceh Province of Indonesia

Upon the end of a five-year relief plan in 2009 initiated in Aceh Province of Indonesia for the care of tsunami-afflicted people (which included the construction of orphanages, campuses, activity centers and kindergartens), the Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation mapped out a new two-year subsidy project to provide continued support for poor students in Aceh who have suffered from the 2004 deadly tsunami.

From 19 to 27 November, 2010, six members of DDMSWCF flew to Aceh to launch the project. A total of 41 disadvantaged students received subsidies. With the help of from local volunteers, members also visited each recipient’s family to offer DDMSWCF’s blessings and observe the plight they have faced.

The members also held four gatherings to introduce Spiritual Environmentalism at orphanages and schools in Aceh in cooperation with local volunteers. The programs organized at the gatherings were inspirational and animated, aiming at coaching the children to face difficulties with a positive attitude and to make transformation of the outer environment possible.
