DDMSWCF Offers Medical Services and Donates Ambulance for Tsunami-afflicted Victims in N. Sri Lanka
On 29 October, 2010, the ninth medical team was dispatched by Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation to assist the 2004 South Asia Tsunami victims in Sri Lanka.
The team, consisting of 29 members provided 14-day medical services in northern districts of Kaddaiddaiparichchan,Paddalipuram and Polonaruwa.
In addition, DDMSWCF had also donated an ambulance to the Ambalantota Hospital to improve local medical services.
On 11 November, Secretary General of DDMSWCF, Venerable Guo Qi, specially travelled from Taipei to attend the donation ceremony.
During which, Venerable Guo Qi said that DDMSWCF had established the Peace of Mind Relief Station in Hambalantota to unfold a five-year project – offering medical services as well as spiritual counseling soon after the deadly tsunami occurred in 2004.
He stressed that although the project was due to an end already, DDMSWCF has continued to deeply care for the tsunami-afflicted people.
Venerable Guo Qi also encouraged every member of the medical team and delivered warmest blessings to every waiting patient on behalf of DDM.
Besides offering medical services, DDMSWCF’s medical team also distributed materials for relief purposes, including milk powder, stationery, nail clips and vaseline to children and aged people.
