The Hall of Infinite Practices

All volunteers are participants of the Hall of Infinite Practices

‘Infinite practices’ (萬行), or doing unlimited good deeds refers to the practice of bodhisattvas. And what is it? It is the practice of six paramitas (六度) and four ways of gathering sentient beings (四攝), namely: giving (佈施), loving speech (愛語), beneficial conduct (利行), and cooperation (同事) . It is practiced by those who aspire to be bodhisattvas. It is the direct cause of attaining Buddhahood.

Doing unlimited good deeds does not mean to be all-powerful. Rather, it is to be flexible to carry out assignments of either the higher or lower order and being willing to take on responsibilities that no one is doing, yet have no hesitation to step aside when others are available.

Be it the poor or the rich, be it noble or humble tasks, all volunteering devotion matters and the merit fields can be cultivated along with their aspirations. In this regard, the “Bodhisattvas of unlimited good deeds” could perform deeds that others find difficult and endure hardships that others could not.

Apart from the participants and monastics who lead the practices, the Water and Land Dharma Service volunteers are also significant in performing all kinds of tasks for holding the ceremony.

Every time we hold our meal in a bowl, use a clean restroom, follow the foot traffic guidance, or are settled and concentrating in the serene shrine, or even encounter a lovely smile of welcome, all of these reveal the selfless devotions made by “Bodhisattvas of unlimited good deeds.” (萬行菩薩)

As Master Sheng Yen once said, hardworking executives must be able to shoulder complaints and criticisms, as benevolence usually comes along with complaints, whereas treasures emerge from criticism. If one is good at shouldering responsibilities, they must be a good executive that has a good chance to realize their self- practices and benefit others.

As the “infinite practices” spreads in every corner of DDM, everywhere is considered the Hall of Infinite Practices.
