The 2009 Year-End Gala Party at DDM Vancouver

On the afternoon of 13 December 2009, Dharma Drum Mountain in Vancouver, Canada held a gala party to thank all their volunteers for their compassionate contributions throughout the year.

There were more than one hundred guests from the great Vancouver metropolitan city who attended the event and all enjoyed the Director of DDM Vancouver, Venerable Guo Shu’s Dharma talk on Chan (Zen).

Activities prepared for the day were both inspirational and joyful, with the purpose of bringing each participant closer to the beauty of Chan, thereby improving their understanding of and teaching them how to incorporate the practice of Chan in daily life.

The activities aimed to show guests how practicing Chan can enable one to self-reflect, be more aware of the mind and to focus on the present moment. The importance of being relaxed at all times for a more well-organized life was also emphasized.

Following the activities, everyone joined together to view the film titled ‘In the Remembrance of Master Sheng Yen’, to remember the Master’s great spirit of the vow of 'uplifting the character of humanity and building a pure land on earth'.
