DDMSWCF Receives Official Gratitude for Morakot Post-Disaster Reconstruction Works

On the afternoon of 8 August 2011, the Executive Director of Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF), Mr Hung-Chi Chiang, attended a press conference held by the Morakot Post-Disaster Reconstruction Council.

Following Typhoon Morakot in August 2009, DDMSWCF swiftly formed three Peace of Mind Relief Stations in the districts of Linbian, Liukuei and Jiaxian of Kaohsiung City. These stations provided the victims with spiritual support, material resources and assisted in permanent house constructions.

The press conference was held at the Government Information Office with the purpose of reporting on the progress and achievements of the reconstruction efforts by the Morakot Post-Disaster Reconstruction Council and to express the government’s gratitude to non-profit organizations that have helped in the reconstruction process.

According to Premier Den-Yih Wu, reconstruction projects have been moving at full speed for the past two years. In community rebuilding, the government has provided 216.5 hectares of land and worked with six charity organizations – including the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, the Red Cross Society of the ROC, World Vision Taiwan, the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation, the Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) and the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan – on the task of constructing permanent houses.

To date, 2,946 permanent houses have been completed, benefiting over 10,000 disaster victims. The government is deeply thankful to these non-profit organizations’ compassion and their substantial contributions, Premier Wu said.
