In Memory of Master Wu Ming

On 22 July, 2011, Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM), Venerable Guo Dong, attended the funeral of Master Wu Ming, who passed away on 19 July, 2011, at the age of 102.

The funeral took place at the Mingyuan Hall of Haiming Monastery in Shulin, New Taipei City, and was attended by many revered and respected Buddhist monastics from all over Taiwan, who came to offer their deepest condolences as well as to honor the Master’s great contribution and dedication towards the spreading of the Dharma.

Master Wu Ming, was the former President of Taiwan’s Buddhist Association of China and the Abbot of Haiming Monastery in Shulin of New Taipei City.

Born in Henan Province, China, in 1910, Master Wu Ming received monastic ordination in Buddhism when he was 14 years old. For his long-term dedication towards advocating the Dharma Lineage of Kuan-Yin, the Master is also affectionately known as ‘Kuan-Yin-Lao-Ren’ (a senior Kuan-Yin elder).

Master Wu Ming had a close relationship with Dharma Drum Mountain. Not only was the Master a close friend of the late Venerable Master Sheng Yen, but the Master also often selflessly offered his encouragement and suggestions for the growth and development of DDM.

Master Wu Ming will always be remembered for his great compassion for all sentient beings and the selfless nature in which he dedicated his life towards the teaching and dissemination of the Dharma.
