Mianyang Officials Visit DDM World Center for Buddhist Education

On 21 May, 2011, Vice Mayor of Mianyang City in northern Sichuan, Mr Lin Yi, and 23 other Mianyang officials visited the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan District of New Taipei City.

Vice Mayor Yi said that the purpose of this visit was to convey Mianyang’s warmest gratitude towards Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) which has been supporting Mianyang’s reconstruction projects and charities in the wake of the deadly earthquake that happened in May 2008.

DDM’s Vice Abbot President, Venerable Guo Pin, greeted the guests on behalf of DDMSWCF and the DDM Sangha Community.

The Vice Abbot Prsident said that DDM would continue to support Mianyang’s reconstruction works and is committed to caring for those quake-affected people in line with the compassion of the Buddha and the teachings of the late Venerable Master Sheng Yen.

After the formalities and exchange of gifts, the Vice Abbot President gave the guests a tour of the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education, including the Grand Buddha Hall, the Wish-Fulfilling Guanyin Hall, and the Funding History Memorial Hall.

DDMSWCF has been conducting five-year reconstruction projects in Mianyang following the 2008 earthquake. Among these, the Xiushui Primary School and the Chengjiaba Medical Center have been successfully completed.

DDMSWCF has also been offering financial assistance to Miangyang’s students in the hope of encouraging disaster-affected students to continue their studies.
