Venerable Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche Visits Yunlai Monastery

On 18 February, Venerable Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche paid his first visit to the Yunlai Monastery in Taipei, the administration center of Dharma Drum Mountain.

Accompanied by the Director of the International Relations and Development Department, Venerable Guo Jiann, Venerable Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche visited all the different departments of the administration center to have a better understanding of the role and operations of each department. He took the the time to speak and offered words of encouragement to the employees and volunteers present.

In Venerable Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche’s speech, he praised the development of Buddhism in Taiwan, and believed that the positive development and growthof Buddhism was largely attributed to the harmonious spirit of Confucianism, which has complemented the essence of compassion and the Bodhi mind found in Mahayana Buddhism.


Venerable Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche also shared that he had read many English publications of the late Venerable Master Sheng Yen and has been impressed by Master Sheng Yen’s compassionate ideas and the Master’s efforts on ‘uplifting the character of humanity’. He described Master Sheng Yen as being a precious treasure both to Buddhism and to the people of Taiwan. , Venerable Dzongsar concluded his hour and a half-long speech by saying that he looked forward to seeing DDM work even harder to fulfill Master Sheng Yen’s compassionate great vows and for the further development of Buddhism in Taiwan.

Venerable Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, born 1961 and also known as Khyentse Norbu, is a Bhutanese lama, a filmmaker and a writer. Two of his major films include The Cup (1999) and Travellers and Magicians (2003). He is also a prominent ‘tulku’ (which refers to a particular high-ranking lama in Tibetan Buddhism) associated with Dzongsar Monastery in Derge, Eastern Tibet.
