DDMSWCF Offers Financial and Material Aid to Tsunami Victims in Japan

Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) has swiftly offered financial and material aid to tsunami-afflicted victims in northern Japan on the following day of the devastating tsunami on 11 March 2011.

It was caused by a magnitude 9 earthquake that occurred off the eastern coast of Honshu, resulting in a catastrophic number of causalities in Japan.

DDMSWCF has donated NT$5,000,000 (about US$169,160) and material goods worth NT$3,000,000 (about US$101,330), including tents, sleeping bags, instant noodles, gloves and socks, in line with the relief project initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China to deliver the warmest care and assistance from the DDM Sangha Community in Taiwan.

The Buddha taught us that life is impermanent. More importantly, however, the Buddha also taught that one shall be compassionate by caring and giving great sympathy to those in suffering, explained Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong.

The Abbot President compassionately pleaded everyone in Taiwan and DDM’s followers across the world to pray for those suffering from this deadly tsunami by mindfully chanting of the ‘Great Compassion Mantra’ and the holy name of ‘Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva’.
