DDM Hosts Dharma Assembly for Transmitting the Light Ceremony in Taichung

On 19 February 2011, Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) hosted a Dharma Assembly for a “Transmitting the Light" ceremony. The event which was held in the main auditorium of Hung Kuang University in Taichung City, attracted approximately two thousand Buddhists to attend.

Six members which made up ‘The Compassion Pilgrimage’ group consisting of DDM monastics and lay practitioners arrived on schedule to participate in the event. Their three-day hard march, which aims to honour the hardship of what the Venerable Master Sheng Yen had gone through for Dharma Drum Mountain, began in the early morning hours of 16 February from Zhaiming Monastery in Taoyuan and they arrived in Taichung in the afternoon of 19 February.

The Abbot President, Venerable Guo Dong, said that the Buddha had lit up the way with the Dharma and dispelled darkness on earth with his great wisdom and as each successive Master throughout history has compassionately passed on this teachings, the Dharma is now brighter than ever.

In the presence of the Buddhas, everyone held a candle in their hands and wholeheartedly vowed to practise the Dharma and Spiritual Environmentalism diligently for the development of peace not only in one’s own mind but for peace in the whole society in line with the teachings of the late Venerable Master Sheng Yen. “This is the best way to honour the Venerable Master Sheng Yen,” said the Abbot President.
