DDMSWCF Conducts Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Successful Construction of Permanent Residences in Kuken

On 10 January 2011, Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain, Venerable Guo Dong, and Secretary General of DDM Social Welfare and Charity Foundation, Venerable Guo Qi, arrived in the Kuken Township of Yunlin County in central Taiwan.

He presided over the groundbreaking ceremony where permanent residences to be constructed with the financial aid of DDMSWCF were unveiled. Yunlin Country Government Magistrate Mrs. Zhi-Fen Su was also present for celebration along with Kuken’s residents.

Prior to the ceremony, the Purification Ritual was held and officiated by Venerable Guo Qi to pray for the success and upcoming construction of the new dwellings by chanting Buddhist scriptures.

According to DDMSWCF, the permanent residences are to be built for the flood victims from the villages that were afflicted by the flood in August 2009 including Zhanghu, Huashan, and Zaoling within Kuken Township.

Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong warmly thanked all the supporters and volunteers who had contributed to the development of the new residences.

Furthermore, Venerable Guo Dong acknowledged that it was due to the compassionate generosity and assistance from volunteers and local celebrities that upon completion the buildings can serve the needs of those rendered homeless.

The Abbot President expressed his wish that every volunteer and Kuken’s villagers would "embrace spiritual contentment for good fortune in 2011 and years to come".
