DDMSWCF teams up with NPH to support Haiti’s quake victims

Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) will join in a collaborative effort with the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) to provide the much needed medical support to Haiti’s earthquake survivors.

NPH, literally meaning ‘Our Little Brothers And Sisters’, is an organization that has provided a home for thousands of orphans and abandoned children since 1954. Currently there are nine NPH homes throughout Latin America.

NHP has been offering charity service in Haiti for at least nine years, whose effort included the establishment of the state-of-the-art children’s hospital, Saint Damien Hospital, to offer free medical service. The hospital is also providing medical care to the survivors following the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti.

According to NPH’s liaison doctor in Taiwan, Dr. Jin-Ting Yeh, Saint Damien Hospital is now facing a bed shortage, with its existing 200 beds, it will require an additional one thousand beds in the hospital, as well as more medical supplies, in order to meet the current demand- this dire situation has impacted countless patients as their conditions have worsened; in some cases the condition may even become lethal if left untreated.

Following the arrival of the first batch of relief goods in Haiti on 12 January with the help of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DDMSWCF is now working with NPH with the aim of providing medical relief for the people of Haiti.
