DDM is awarded for its compassionate works during the 88 Flood

On the morning of 27 October, 2009, Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) was honorably awarded by Ministry of the Interior (MOI) for its compassionate works in southern and eastern Taiwan during the 88 Flood brought by Typhoon Morakot in early August.


The Director of DDM Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF), Venerable Guo Qi, received the award in the auditorium of the National Police Administration of MOI on behalf of DDM. There were 101 charity organizations and 209 people to receive this credit in the ceremony.

Premier of the Executive Yuan, Mr. Wu Den-Yih, expressed his utmost gratitude and said that because of an immediate act and unselfish dedications from charity organizations, the casualties and the loss in southern Taiwan were limited to the minimum. He promised that the government would continue to do its greatest effort in advancing the capabilities of disaster’s rescue and relief.

DDMSWCF has signed an accord with the Ministry of Education to help in the reconstruction of school’s campuses in southern Taiwan damaged by the typhoon and setup the Peace of Mind Relief Stations in Linbian Township and Liugui Township of Kaohsiung County respectively to provide the affected people with spiritual counseling and material relief, and to offer financial aid to the affected students.
