The Power of Virtue, Displayed in an Inspirational DDM Fair in Taoyuan
On the afternoon of 27 September 2009, Dharma Drum Mountain’s General Association of Dharma Upholder hosted a special fair, titled “A Mind at Peace, A Life at Peace - You Are Empowered” in Taoyuan to demonstrate the critical role of virtue in social harmony. Over 2 000 people participated in the event with their families and friends, making the fair full of joy and laughter.
The fair began with a prayer ritual presided by Abbot President, Venerable Guo Dong, Director of Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF), Venerable Guo Qi, as well as celebrities from Taoyuan districts in the hope of bringing peace to the victims of the 88 Flood.
Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong emphasized in his remarks that every individual possesses the seed of love. For instance, the goodness and virtues of many people were unreservedly displayed throughout the rescue and relief works of the 88 Flood. One therefore must be grateful towards the power of virtue. As long as one is grateful, one can feel a sense of happiness.
The activities of this special event were multifarious, including tea meditation, practice of Chan in the family, vegetarian food tasting and dancing. These activities were interesting, inspirational and entertaining. DDM hopes that these activities were able to remind one the importance of practicing goodness and virtue in daily life because such practice generates gratitude, which in turn, creates a peaceful and harmonious society.
