Venerables of the Xinxing Monastery visit Taimali Township to care for people affected by Typhoon Morakot

Early in the morning of 10th of August 2009, Venerable Guo Mi, Venerable Chang Yue and volunteers of the XinXing Monastery of Dharma Drum Mountain in Taitung County, eastern Taiwan visited the Taimali Township, nearby villages and emergency shelters in the area.

The venerables went out of concern to care for the survivors of this region which was one of the most devastated when hit by Typhoon Morakot between 7th - 9th August 2009.

Venerable Guo Mi also pledged to those survivors who have lost their beloved families and also lost their homes and possessions in the catastrophe, that venerables of the Xinxing Monastery will pray for peace and safeguard them with the blessings of Guanyin (Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva) in the Prayer Ritual for lost people and victims of the typhoon to be held on 23 August.

Due to the devastation of transport infrastructure, many remote villages positioned in the mountain area have been totally cut off from transportation with relief materials needing to be airlifted in by helicopters. Volunteers of XinXing Monastery are closely cooperating with local authorities to provide food, milk powder cans for infants, instant noodles and bread to sustain the villagers.
