Venerable Guo Dong remains as the third Abbot President
On the 28 June 2009, the present second Abbot President, Venerable Guo Dong, was elected to remain as the third Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain.
In the month of June, a time that all the venerables of DDM around the world returned for advanced Chan meditation, the DDM Sangha Community held the DDM Sangha Assembly and the Nomination of the Third Abbot President at the International Banquet Hall of the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township.
The nomination was in accordance with the "Statute of Selection and the Appliance of Authority for the Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain". The seven members, including Venerable Hui Min, Venerable Guo Hui and Venerable Guo Goang, were voted to form the Selection Committee.
Seven members of the committee made a unanimous resolution to nominate the present Abbot President, Venerable Guo Dong, to continue his tenure as the third Abbot President. The resolution was passed after votes were caste by every venerable of DDM.
The Abbot President expressed his deepest gratitude in his speech. He said that he greatly appreciated the teachings that he had received from the Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen and the trust shown from the DDM Sangha Community.
He said that he was glad to have the opportunity to continue to assist in developing Dharma Drum Mountain in the mission of caring for the wellbeing of all sentient beings.
On 29 June, the third Abbot Venerable Guo Dong unveiled his one-month Dharma tour in northern America for spreading the power of virtues and the joy of Dharma.
