DDM and NCCU sign up for a humanistic society

On the afternoon of 29 April 2009, Dharma Drum Humanities and Social Improvement Foundation (DDHSIF) was honored and delighted with the opportunity to collaborate with Taiwan's National Chengchi University (NCCU) for the founding of "Dharma Drum Lecture on Humanities" to promote humanistic care in society.

The President of NCCU, Dr. Se-Hwa Wu, and DDM’s Abbot President, Venerable Guo Dong, co-signed the cooperation contract. Honorable guests including the Secretary General of DDHSIF, Li Shengyi, the Deputy Secretary General of DDHSIF, Chen Jinzong, the President of Dharma Drum Community College, Ceng Jiqun, and Prof. Lin Yueyun, were present in commemoration of the collaboration between the two parties.

The Abbot President said that the Founder of DDM, Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen, had pinpointed the significance of the cultivation and promotion of humanistic nature in society. The Master fostered "Protecting the Spiritual Environment" as DDM's core spirit and aimed to propagate DDM's humanistic ideas and care throughout society through the "Three Types of Education".

The President of NCCU, Dr. Wu, said that the nurturing of humanitarianism in today's society is blinded by the illusions of material development and is short of our expectations. The President believed that through collaboration with DDM, NCCU’s effort in the building of a humanistic society in Taiwan can be achieved.

Professionals that are knowledgeable in humanistic development in Taiwan will be invited to give speeches at future "Dharma Drum Lecture on Humanities" or will be invited to teach at the NCCU in order to spread the seeds of humanistic development.
