DDM's continued relief efforts in Sichuan and appeals for public concern over victims
The 5/12 earthquake in Sichuan shocked the world. Over the past few months, international relief teams have put great efforts into the delivery of medical care and material supplies into the quake-stricken areas.
Demonstrating the same great compassion, Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) mobilized to join the humanitarian relief efforts in Sichuan soon after the devastating quake. DDMSWCF quickly mapped out appropriate relief strategies for different phases of relief work and reconstruction in the hope of assisting survivors to return to their normal lives and overcome their sorrow.
DDMSWCF continues to show much strength in the first phase of relief works with medical care and distributing material supplies, whilst the second phase of giving spiritual and psychological counseling is also being conducted. In order to efficiently and appropriately utilize scarce resources, DDMSWCF has decided to make Xiushui Township of Mianyang County in Sichuan the prime target of its sponsorship. In addition to financially sponsoring the Medical Center of Xiushui Township and the First Zhong Xin Primary School, DDMSWCF also hopes to run summer camps that provide spiritual counseling to quake-affected children . Assistance from local enterprises, Buddhist organizations, volunteers and charity groups will also be called upon by DDMSWCF for these joint efforts.
Not only must DDMSWCF overcome the thorny challenge of increasing inflation, DDMSWCF is also doing its best to round up as much resources in communities as possible to conduct the reconstruction relief effort in Sichuan. Consequently, DDMSWCF is likely to call on people to carry on the compassion for the quake-stricken victims, aspiring for the seeds of hope to grow.
