DDM's Water Purifiers Ready at the Service of Villages along the Irrawady Delta in Myanmar

As reported by overseas Chinese businessman in Myanmar of thirteen years and a passionate, longtime DDM volunteer Mr. Feng Tsai TSAI, a set of water purifiers donated by Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare & Charity Foundation in Myanmar (DDMSWCFM) was successfully installed for service on 13 June 2008, providing clean water for the cyclone victims.

The set of water purifiers was put in place at Magyi Pin, a village nearly a twelve-hour drive away from the capital of Yangoon. Following successful post-installation testing and the provision of training for maintenance and manipulation, the set of water purifiers was handed over to the village leader and is estimated to benefit some 3000 victims.

Venerable Master Sheng Yen and DDM Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong has offered their warmest concerns and condolences, and since Cyclone Nargis struck southern Myanmar in early May causing severe loss and damage, DDMSWCFM has dispatched three relief teams to supply the disaster-stricken region with relief supplies.

Tsai also revealed how purified water is paramount in preventing the outbreak of an epidemic, due to the indispensable use of water in cooking, drinking and cleaning. Consequently, the Foundation donated a total of five sets of water purifiers. Once permission is granted by officials, the four remaining sets are to be installed at Laputta Township, Higyi Island, Kyon Ku Village and Pyin Sa Lu Township, all along the Irrawady Delta, by the end of July.
