DDMSWCF Recruits Hundreds of Volunteers for Cleanup in Yilan
Starting from 21 October 2010, Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) successfully recruited hundreds of volunteers to help clean up debris left by Typhoon Megi in Yilan County, Taiwan.
Torrential downpour associated with the typhoon triggered widespread flash floods and landslides throughout the county. According to the Central Weather Bureau, a record 939 mm of rainfall was reported in a 24-hour period between 20 and 21 October, 2010.
Secretary General of DDMSWCF, Venerable Guo Qi, visited the county to cheer on volunteers and offer blessings to typhoon-afflicted victims, wishing them a fast recovery and an ability to remain positive in times of difficulty.
Mr. Tsai, who lives in Suao Township of Yilan County, said that this was the worst disaster that he had seen in forty years. Tsai stated that a sense of helplessness overcame him when he saw the amount of debris left by the typhoon on the ground floor and outside of his house.
But his heart soon filled with warmth and hope as he saw volunteers of DDMSWCF offering their help to clean up the area and distribute relief goods to the victims compassionately.
