DDMSWCF initiates emergency relief to help those afflicted by Typhoon Megi
Torrential rainfall from Typhoon Megi triggered widespread flash flooding and landslides throughout Yilan County. According to the Central Weather Bureau, a record 939 mm of rain fell in a 24-hour span between 20 and 21 October, 2010.
This surpassed the previous record set by Typhoon Morakot in August 2009. Megi also brought much rainfall in Hualien, Taitung, and Pingtung. At least 12 people have been confirmed dead and 23 others are missing.
Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) have set up the relief center in Taipei to procure relief supplies and coordinate the relief efforts. The relief center is now calling for volunteers to join in to help clean the homes of the elderly living alone and disadvantaged people. Home cleaning for Megi’s victims has taken priority after the flood retreated.
DDMSWCF will carry on the ongoing relief works to support the victims and to help them rebuild their lives.
