DDMSWCF hosts a summer camp in Tonshi to promote the ‘protection of the spiritual environment’

Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) hosted a summer camp from 4 to 6 August 2010, in central Taiwan’s Tonshi Township, Yunlin County. Thirty students attended the camp altogether while 63 generous volunteers offered their assistance for the duration of the camp.

The theme of this year’s Tonshi Summer Camp was ’Protecting the Spiritual Environment’. The main goal of the camp was to raise awareness of the power of one’s mind and bring the significance of this to the students’ attention.

An introduction of Taiwan’s native birds by the teacher, Mr. Qin-Sung,Sun, started the program. The aim was to inspire students to expand their knowledge about and cherish the environment in which we live.

In addition to teaching the students about the significance of environmentalism, the program also taught them how to cultivate merits; such as conducting appropriate manner toward others and how to be compassion at all times.

Mrs. Kui-Xian Lee, an instructor, taught them of the existence of a power that can make our world different, and that power actually rests in the mind of each and every one of us. The three-day program was interesting and inspirational.

DDMSWCF anticipates that the seeds of merit sowed in the minds of the students will grow and contribute to DDM’s purpose of “promoting the character of humanity and building a pure land on earth”.
