DDM hosts a special seminar to encourage youth self-advancement

Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) hosted a special youth seminar on 14 August 2010 at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County.

The seminar commenced with discussions between DDM’s Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong and Taiwan’s famous and senior TV anchor, Mrs Chun-Hwa Shen sharing and reflecting their own life experiences.

They convey that the power of the mind plays a significant role in life and stressed that having a positive mind enables one to break through limitation of one’s own life and re-discover the values of life.

Venerable Guo Dong said that every one of us may run into difficulties in life once in a while. In the midst of a dilemma, one should turn to the mind for solutions, rather than complain or try to change the surroundings. He encourages youth to approach difficulties and challenges in life with the attitude of compassion, positive mind and pragmatism.

Mrs Shen said that one should look into one’s own heart and it is through this process that one could advance oneself and even transcend one’s own limitations. “Self-awaken is rather significant,” she said, “and if one could maintain a positive attitude and an open mind, one could advance and broaden one’s life.”

The seminar was actually one of the programs of a five-day youth training program, held at the Center from 11th to 15th August, 2010. The purpose of the program was to teach young people the significance of the mind and how it could bring a brighter future to everyone.
