Ziyun Monastery hosts a training course for higher relief quality
On 15 August 2010, Ziyun Monastery of Dharma Drum Mountain in Kaohsiung City hosted a basic training course of emergency relief. Fifty-four volunteers participated the training.
Ahead of starting the training, Director of Ziyun Monastery, Venerable Guo Yao, specially presented to cheer up the students. He said that the course provides the students a great occasion to well equip with the knowledge and skills about emergency relief, and they in the future would enable every one of the students to ‘proficiently’ react as well as assist those in need, if the disaster occurs.
The course began with an introduction of domestic and overseas relief activities, initiated by Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF). This allowed the students to further comprehend DDMSWCF’s tasks about relief and caring for disaster-afflicted victims.
In addition, Deputy Director of Fire Bureau in Kaohsiung County, Mr. Yuan-Yi Lee, was specially invited to lecture on official preparations and its acts towards natural disaster.
Deputy Director Lee however stressed that constructing an efficient collaboration between the government and local humanitarian organizations sets a tone of having a successful relief act, in light of the limitation of official operations, such as human resource.
He therefore took an advantage of the lecture to appreciate DDMSWCF’s past assistances to the Fire Bureau in Kaohsiung County, especially during the 88 Flood last year caused by the Typhoon Morakot.
The course marked the end with inviting experienced relief workers of DDMSWCF to come to share their stories and to join the discussion with the students for good.
