DDM Recognized for Great Contributions & Achievements in Social Charities by the Government

In the morning of 3 August 2010, The Chung Hwa Institute of Buddhist Education, Dharma Drum Buddhist Foundation, Nung Chan Monastery and Yunlai Monastery were acclaimed by the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) as a group of organizations for their long term dedication to social charities.

The ceremony was hosted at the Convention Center of National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) in Taipei. DDM joins 258 other charity institutions that had received this honorary status awarded by the MOI earlier this year, marking the 8th occasion in a row for Dharma Drum Buddhist Foundation to receive this award.

According to the MOI, the four institutions of DDM were specially awarded in honor of their long term dedication to philanthropic affairs in the community propagating social harmony.

The deputy minister of MOI, Mr. Tai-Lang Chien, remonstrated that MOI very much appreciates contributions and the uplifting spirit of religious organizations in Taiwan. For instance, the reconstruction efforts provided by DDM in financially and spiritually supporting victims in the stricken communities of southern Taiwan following Typhoon Morakot in August 2009 had won over the hearts of the people and the government.

Venerable Guo Yue affirmed on the occasion that DDM would continue to follow the teachings of the late Master in attempt to work on ‘building a pure land on earth’ and to promote the idea of ‘protecting the spiritual environment’ for the welfare of people and peace in society.
