Abbot President Presented a Talk at Taiwan’s National Security Bureau

On 2 July, 2010, Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong gave a speech at the National Security Bureau (NSB), Taiwan’s principal intelligence agency, in Taipei on how to maintain a calm state of mind while experiencing highly stressful situations.

In order to motivate the NSB staff and help relieve their mounting work pressure, the Chief of NSB, Mr. De-Sheng Tsai, invited the Abbot President to speak to over four hundred people on, “Peace, Harmony and Abundance - You Are Empowered”. Venerable Guo Dong encouraged every member to remain composed at all times, especially while confronting challenges and high levels of pressure.

He expounded that only by maintaining a calm mind, persevering and being patient, can one always take on his/her responsibilities with a positive attitude.

When speaking about pressure, Venerable Guo Dong first praised the compassion displayed by the NSB when they enthusiastically assisted the tribal children in Jiayi County to return to school following Typhoon Morake which swept over southern Taiwan last September. This is the embodiment of great compassion propagated by the Dharma. He said, “When you care for others, that pressure will naturally become into a supportive force for others.

Finally, the Abbot President quoted the words of the late Venerable Master Sheng Yen spoken to the DDM Sangha Community, “ Abiding to principles, Designating authority with full confidence, Caring for each other, Respecting others, Communicating with initiative, and Always reflecting on oneself” in order to encourage the building of peace and harmony within the workplace and family.
