DDMSWCF Seeks Cooperation with Local Manufacturers in Support of Quake-Affected Students in Haiti

It has been two months since the deadly earthquake of magnitude 7 struck Haiti. As the reconstruction work began to unfold, Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) dispatched Mr. Chu-Qi Huang (also the Vice President of DDM’s General Association of Dharma Upholders), to Haiti as the representative for post-disaster evaluation from April 14 to 21, 2010.

The aim of the evaluation was to gain an understanding about the trauma experienced by those afflicted in the aftermath of the disaster, to acquire first-hand information about reconstruction work being carried out by the United Nations and other organizations, and to seek cooperation and assistance from local manufacturers to support the return of students to local schools.

As a result of assistance from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the Republic of Haiti, Mr. Chu-Qi Huang also successfully visited Haiti’s Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Affairs, charity organizations, local hospitals, orphanages, primary schools and junior high schools.

According to Mr. Huang, the evaluation report would be brought back to SWCF for further assessment. Consequently, SWCF would seek cooperation with local communities or charity organizations in support of Haiti’s reconstruction works, especially in the reconstruction of the campus damaged by the earthquake.
