DDM Joins the Beach Cleanup Campaign for Environmental Conservation

The '2010 Beach Cleanup Campaign' was initiated by the Jin Shan Township Government of Taipei County at Pearl Beach on the morning of 24 April, 2010. In line with the environmentalist philosophy that DDM has lastingly upheld, DDM recruited over five hundred volunteers from neighboring townships of Jin Shan, Wan Li and Shi Men to assist with the beach cleanup.

Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong, a guest of honor at the event, shared his views on the environment. He stated that the degradation of the environment is an aftermath of copious human activities – the large amount of toxic waste produced on a daily basis has resulted in a heavily polluted and frail environment. This in turn, has gradually endangered our daily life.

Consequently, DDM been actively promoting the idea of 'protecting the spiritual environment' in society, calling on everyone to cultivate a positive mind, to be grateful and to cherish the limited resources available thus reducing our material desires, and ultimately protecting our fragile environment.
