Celebrating the Inauguration of Yunji Monastery in Tainan

On the morning of 11 April, 2010, the Yunji Monastery located in the Jiali Township of Tainan County, was formally inaugurated after the Abbot President, Venerable Guo Dong, unveiled a Buddha statue together with honorable guests including the Minister of Education, Mr. Chin-Chi Wu, Mayor of Tainan County, Mr. Huan-Jhih Su and Mayor of Tainan City, Mr. Tain-Tsair Hsu.

In the afternoon, almost five hundred people took refuge from the Abbot President in the "Three jewels" of the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha and formally became disciples of the Buddha agreeing to generate virtuous vows for peace in the world.

The Abbot President, Venerable Guo Dong noted that the Yunji Monastery had in fact been named by the late Venerable Master Sheng Yen and he therefore expressed that he has been looking forward to seeing the compassionate vows made by the late Master to carry on in making this monastery into a place that purifies one’s mind and bring peace to Tainan.

Director of Yunji Monastery, Venerable Guo Qian, conveyed that the monastery’s surroundings was an ideal environment in conducting various Chan (Zen) activities. It will also play a role as a hub which promotes the concept of 'Protecting Spiritual Environment'. More importantly, the monastery will broaden the channels for youth in learning the Dharma. She vowed that the monastery will do its utmost in propagating the goal of "building a pure land on earth" and it will satisfy one’s thirst for inner peace in southern Taiwan.
