The Rising Great Compassion- DDM vows to remain committed to spreading the teachings and spirit of the Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen

On the afternoon of 22 February, 2010, people from across the globe gathered at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County, to attend the Dharma service held in memory of the Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen as they vow to carry on the teachings and spirit of the late Master.

The Great Rising Compassion─The Dharma Service of Transmitting the Dharma Lamp was held by the DDM Sangha Community in memory of the Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen, who relinquished his Dharma body one year ago. The devotees vowed to dedicate themselves to spreading the teachings of the Master, to sustain the Dharma and work for the welfare of humanity.

Before the Dharma service began, Abbot President, Venerable Guo Dong, pointed out that Dharma-the lamp of wisdom, can help eliminate one’s ignorance. And the Dharma service was held for remembering the teachings of Venerable Master Sheng Yen and for devotees to make the vow of carrying forward his teachings to sustain the existence of Chinese Buddhism.

The Abbot President stated that the day the Master relinquished his Dharma body has been designated as DDM’s Day of Transmitting the Dharma Lamp. DDM will continue to strive to spread and share the ideals and the teachings of the Most Venerable Sheng Yen.

Amidst the chanting of the Buddhist scriptures, eighteen DDM monastics, one by one, lighted the lamp held in the hand of each participant, symbolizing their faith in realizing the vision of ‘uplifting the character of humanity and building a pure land on earth’ advocated by the Most Venerable Master Sheng Yen.
