The Month of Chan Practice

Guan Yin Bodhisattva, as we all are familiar, attained Buddhahood through the approach of “achieving complete penetration through focused hearing”.

Let’s follow Guan Yin Bodhisattva, experiencing the true nature of impermanence by contemplating nature, using it as a daily practice. Before reaching Guan Yin's level, people can still calm their mind and stabilize themselves by acquiring basic hearing training, listening to the sounds of nature.

DDM, as well-known as a Guan Yin Bodhisattva monastery, has held reputable Chan activities, “The Month of Chan Practice”, over the past years, for encouraging people to learn about the Chan Methods in the beauty of autumn every September.

This year, from Sept 1st to Sept 30th, DDM, as usual, keeps inviting groups and individuals to come visit our World Center for Buddhist Education with prior reservation, experiencing Chan activities like listening to the sound of creeks, water contemplation, and various meditation approaches such as bowl holding, walking, sitting, and eating, all of which bring the power to recharge the body and mind by purifying and calming them.

Water contemplation, and bowl holding meditation

According to the Visiting Service Office, everyone is welcome to experience the breath-taking beauty of autumn and penetrate the tranquil natural Chan atmosphere, via the methods of pressure release, enjoying breathing or having relaxation guidance. Participants could therefore free their minds like the wind. Take water contemplation for example, participants can practice their mind by imitating the water: clear, tranquil, and at ease, without affecting by the outside.

Another example is bowl holding meditation, an approach that requires one's full focus on a bowl, being absorbed but relaxed in the moment, free from influences.

Welcome to DDM World Center for Buddhist Education, experiencing spiritual cleansing in September. During this visit, we wish you to experience the profound enjoyment in the spirit of Chan that can be found everywhere in daily life, and then eliciting great compassion and wisdom from your own mind. According to the World Center for Buddhist Education, reservations have to be made at least one week prior to your arrival. The registration form is available to download at:
